Villa Merlo in Timrå has long been home to SCA’s corporate archives. When the archive now has moved to us at the Centre for Business History, we asked the company’s archivist Monica Janson to tell us about the building’s exciting history. It became a movie about a castle, a family and a company.
Foretst magnate Fredrik Bünsow built Villa Merlo in 1885 as his summer residence. The residence eventually passed into forestry group SCA’s ownership and has, for the past 70 years, primarily functioned as the company’s corporate archive. In 2022, the historical files – about 5,000 shelf meters – were moved to our premises and SCA sold the castele.
In a new film, Monica Jonson, archivist at SCA and caretaker of the castle for many years, tells about the history of the castle, the Bünslow family and SCA from the 1880s to the present day.
