The Center for Business History has received an exciting collection of slides, photos, documents and published literature from Karin Becker, professor emerita in media studies at Stockholm University.
The material was part of the interdisciplinary research project ”Populära passager: Medierna i det moderna konsumtionsrummet” (in loose translation, “Popular passages: The media in the modern consumption space”) which ran between 1996 and 2002. The project studied consumption patterns, mediated popular culture and commercial messages at the turn of the millennium with the shopping mall in Solna Centrum as the main object of study.
Using photos, interviews and participant observation, the researchers analyzed the everyday commercial environments of the time and the way people moved there. A quarter of a century later, the material appears as a time document from a public space in constant change.
